Understanding the drivers of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in South Asia
We will deliver longitudinal follow-up of South Asian men and women in our Surveillance study, using a combination of face-face and electronic methods. We will identify people with incident type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and complete molecular phenotyping of baseline samples. We will use the existing cross-sectional data, and the new longitudinal results from the SURVEILLANCE study to understand the lifestyle, environmental, genomic, and molecular factors underlying type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases amongst South Asians. We will improve approaches to risk stratification and early diagnosis and inform practice and policy for prevention and control of type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in South Asia.
