GHRU research presented at the SLMA Congress

Thilini Chandrasiri presented her study titled “Dietary Diversity of School Mid-Day Meals of 8-12 Year Old School Children in Sri Lanka” at the 137th Anniversary International Medical Congress of the Sri Lanka Medical Association, held from August 16th to 18th, 2024, in Colombo.

Her research aimed to evaluate the dietary diversity of mid-day meals consumed by school children aged 8-12 years. The findings revealed a significant concern: 41% of the selected children population had inadequate dietary diversity in their school mid-day meals. The study was well-received by the attendees, who appreciated the evidence presented for policy development. The insights from this research are expected to contribute to the formulation of improved nutritional guidelines and policies, ultimately enhancing the dietary diversity and overall health of school children in Sri Lanka.
