Anwesha Lahiri is a PhD candidate at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge, supervised by Prof. Nita Gandhi Forouhi and Dr. Fumiaki Imamura. She was awarded a Gates Cambridge scholarship to pursue her doctoral research on the role of diet in health. Her primary research interest is the role of carbohydrate quality and metabolic risk in diverse populations. Anwesha is drawing on data from the South Asia Biobank, UK Biobank and EPIC-Norfolk to study carbohydrate-based diets, metabolomic variations in relation to carbohydrate-based diets, and their association with risk of cardiometabolic diseases. Prior to joining the MRC Epidemiology Unit, Anwesha completed her MPhil in Epidemiology from University of Cambridge and worked with UNICEF-India as a research fellow. She also holds an MTech in Technology and Development from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India, where she specialized in public health and nanomedicine and a BTech in Biotechnology from West Bengal University of Technology, India.
